Kindle can no longer be switched off - this is how you proceed
If your Kindle can no longer be switched off, it may be due to the device itself, the software or an error in its operation. We'll show you how to turn Kindle off and then use it again.
Kindle reader no longer runs out: the most common causes and solutions
- Some of the newer Kindle devices can no longer be switched off completely. If you press the power button, you are only offered to switch off the screen. The devices can therefore only be put into standby.
- If you want to switch off or force a restart, press and hold the power button on the Kindle for around 20 seconds. Then the eBook reader should switch itself off. If nothing happens, hold the button down for 30 seconds. A quick charge can also help.
- If all of this does not help, you can only wait until the battery runs out on its own. Kindle devices of the 1st and 2nd generation can still be opened quite easily so that you can remove the battery. However, you lose all guarantee claims.
Reset Amazon Kindle in case of problems
If the problem occurs frequently, there is probably a problem in the software. In this case, restoring the factory settings helps:
- First, connect your Kindle to power. To reset, you need a battery level of at least 40 percent.
- Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to go to the "Settings".
- Select the "More" option and then the "Device" category.
- Tap on the "Reset to factory settings" option and confirm the process with "Reset device".
- The Kindle now restarts. All content will be deleted. This may take a few minutes.
