Kindle Voyage vs Paperwhite 2 - the comparison
The successor to the Kindle Paperwhite 2 is on the market: the Kindle Voyage. Nevertheless, Amazon continues to sell both models. We show you the advantages of the newer model in our practical tip.
Kindle Voyage vs. Paperwhite 2: The display of the eBook reader
- The two e-book readers have displays of the same size: they measure six inches diagonally, which corresponds to about 15 centimeters.
- The display technology also remains the same: the readers use an e-ink display with active lighting, thanks to which you can read even in low light and darkness.
- There is a difference in the resolution: the older model has a resolution of 1, 024 x 758 pixels and a pixel density of 212 ppi. The Kindle Voyage, on the other hand, offers 300 ppi, i.e. 1, 440 x 1, 028 pixels. However, the higher resolution is only noticeable with very fine, small fonts that look sharper and crisper with the new reader.
- Another innovation is the light sensor on Kindle Voyage, which automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen to the environment.
Kindle Voyage vs. Paperwhite 2: Design and functions of the models
- Amazon has given the Kindle Voyage a more stylish design: the display now closes directly with the case, as with current tablets. With the Paperwhite 2, the display is framed in a fairly wide frame.
- The housing of the Voyage is also new and the new reader is a bit slimmer than the Paperwhite. In addition, it is a good 20 grams lighter and offers even more reading comfort.
- The Kindle Voyage has a new function: With side scroll sensors, you can turn pages without having to resort to them.
- The two eBook readers work according to the proven principle: You can get new books via WLAN in the Amazon e-book store. Both the Kindle Paperwhite 2 and the new Voyage are available with a 3G function for mobile internet use. This allows you to download books free of charge worldwide, as long as a Vodafone or Vodafone partner network is available.
- With the Paperwhite 2 you can read for half an hour a day for eight weeks with deactivated WLAN and brightness level 10, with the Voyage it is only six weeks.
- The Paperwhite currently costs 99 euros on Amazon, the 3G version is available for 159 euros.
- The Kindle Voyage is significantly more expensive: the WiFi version costs 189 euros, with 3G you even pay 249 euros.
Kindle Voyage vs. Paperwhite 2: Conclusion of the eBook reader duel
- The Kindle Voyage brings a nice new design and a better resolution, but the Paperwhite convinces with longer battery life and the significantly cheaper price.
- So if you are looking for a cheap e-book reader that is suitable for everyday use, do not go wrong with the Paperwhite 2.
- For something fancier and sleeker at 2 weeks of battery life, you'll pay almost double with the Kindle Voyage. That should only be worthwhile for a few users at the moment.
