Cooking for adventurers: prepare a salmon in the dishwasher
Cooking salmon in the dishwasher may seem very exotic at first glance. That's it too, but a dishwasher can be used like a sous vide cooker.
Cooking salmon in the dishwasher - the preparation
Professional chefs do not use a dishwasher in this form of cooking. In every industrial kitchen you will find a steamer or a device to cook sous vide.
- The dishwasher was not actually designed for cooking, but it is being “misused” more and more often.
- The focus is on hygiene. Accordingly, you should make sure that you place the food in the dishwasher, securely vacuum-sealed. The most important aspect is that there is no hole in the film.
- You need a suitable device for vacuuming. The trade offers such easy-to-use and practical household appliances for less than 50 euros.
- Under no circumstances should you season the fish before the cooking process.
- Tip: Coat the salmon with some olive oil beforehand. Alternatively, a good piece of butter can be used. This makes the fish smoother. This has no effect on cooking.
Know how to do it - a guide to cooking
We will show you how to put this seemingly adventurous undertaking into practice.
- The top basket of your dishwasher is the right place for your salmon. So you don't have to bend down and always have the salmon in view when you open the dishwasher.
- It is important to choose the right wash program. The best cooking temperature for fish is 40 to 45 degrees.
- If you cook the salmon at more than 42 degrees, pay attention to protein coagulation. However, since dishwasher water is always subject to temperature fluctuations, there are hardly any risks that this will happen to you at 45 degrees.
- However, you shouldn't go much higher with the temperature. Because the higher the temperature, the greater the likelihood of protein clotting.
- If, contrary to expectations, some protein coagulates, this does not affect the taste, only the appearance of the salmon changes a little.
- Leave the dishwasher about 25 minutes for the procedure. After that, your salmon is cooked through well.
- Taste the fish with the spices of your choice. Then nothing stands in the way of enjoyment.
Cooking with a dishwasher - no increased energy consumption
You save no energy with this cooking method.
- But you don't use more than your stove. So the energy consumption is balanced.
- If you are absolutely certain that there is no opening, no matter how small, in your packaging, you can cook the salmon yourself during the rinsing process. Pay attention to the 40 to 45 degree mark.
- Do not place the fish near the cutlery, even if it is in the upper area of your dishwasher. Under no circumstances should the film be damaged.
