Print comments in Adobe Reader X.
If you want to print out the entire contents of a PDF file including comments, Adobe Reader often ignores this stubbornly. Changing the print settings does not help either, because the printout works differently than specified in the program help. However, the current Reader X offers several options for changing the print specifications.
Print pdf comments as a list
The most sensible printing method, especially when there are several comments, is a separate list.
- To do this, start with the "File | Print" dialog. In the "Comments and forms" combo box, select the "Document and markups" setting.
- Then click on the "Summarize Comments" button below and confirm the following question with "Yes". This means that the individual comments are shown symbolically in the document and numbered. The respective comment texts are then on an additionally inserted page.
- This variant is often clearer, because otherwise individual comments overlap one another or transparently cover too much of the document text. Older versions of Adobe Reader do not yet have this function.
Print out comments as on the reader screen
To output the screen view, you have to adjust a basic setting before printing. With older program versions this is also the only way to print the comments.
- To do this, open the "Edit | Preferences" command in Adobe Reader and select the "Comment" category on the left.
- Then activate the option "Print notes and pop-ups". Now you can start the print dialog again and only have to select "Document and Marks" in the combo box in the upper area. This gives you a printout similar to that on the screen.
Note: In Acrobat Reader 9 the category "Comment" described above is missing and the setting in the print options is ignored. For this reason, comments cannot be printed out in this version.
