Mark contact in WhatsApp group chat: How to address someone directly
In WhatsApp group chats, you can mark contacts and address them directly. The feature is particularly important in times when more and more user groups are muted. Because with this trick you can bypass the muting.
Group chat in WhatsApp: address people directly
- From now on you can mark a person in group chats on WhatsApp. The only requirement is that this person is a member of the group chat. But you don't have to have saved the person as a contact on the smartphone, because it works that way too.
- To speak directly to a person, all you have to do is enter the "@" sign.
- Then a list of all members appears in the chat. if there are more than three members, you can scroll the list with a swipe to find other members. Because the list is sorted alphabetically in descending order.
- If you tap on a person, their name is displayed in blue in the input field. The normal text of the message is still black.
Marked on WhatsApp: What does the recipient see?
- Your recipient will now see your message as a push message on their smartphone. So he sees the message immediately when he picks up his smartphone.
- If the recipient has muted the group, your message will still be displayed as a push message. Because this cannot be deactivated in the settings.
- Note: The function is available both in the iOS app, in the Android app from WhatsApp and in the web version of WhatsApp. If you do not have the function yet, you should update WhatsApp.
On the next page we explain how the new status works on WhatsApp.
