If you don't have a microphone on hand, you can also use your headphones as a microphone. In this practical tip, we will show you how this works with in-ear headphones.
Use in-ear headphones as a microphone - so it'll work
- To use your in-ear headphones as a microphone, you may need this adapter.
- Simply plug the headphones into the socket and connect the colored connectors to your PC.
- If a microphone is attached to the in-ear headphones, you can now use the headphones as a headset.
- If playback is not possible or the microphone does not work in this way, you should update the drivers.
- We will also show you what you can do if your microphone is not recognized.
- Note: This method only works if the in-ear headphones have an integrated microphone.
- If you only have normal headphones without a microphone, you cannot convert them to a microphone.
Use headphones as a microphone - Windows settings
- Connect the headphones directly to the PC if you only have a combined connection for headphones and microphone.
- If you have an input for headphones and a microphone, use the adapter described above. If you do not want to use the headphones for sound reproduction, but only as a microphone, you can plug the jack plug directly into the microphone input.
- Then right-click on the loudspeaker symbol in the lower right corner and select "Recording devices".
- In the next window, double click on "Microphone".
- Switch to the "Levels" tab to configure the recording level of the microphone.
- If "Microphone" has the addition "Disabled", right-click on it and select "Enable".
