Paste copied texts with correct formatting in Word
If you paste copied texts into new documents, the formatting is often no longer correct. We'll show you how to get the correct formatting when copying to Word.
Paste copied text in the correct formatting
Depending on the content of the clipboard, Word offers different options for formatting an inserted text passage.
- To select it, open the "Start" tab in the ribbon and click on the lower part of the "Paste" icon in the "Clipboard" area.
- Then either use the symbols to select the desired method, such as "Copy text only", or you open the usual dialog "Insert content" with a command.
- Copy-Paste, ie [Ctrl] + [C] and [Ctrl] + [V], is of course faster. Then you have to edit the formatting afterwards. To do this, click on the clipboard icon next to the text. Here you can choose between different options (see picture).
Expert tip: adjust the default
When copying from other programs, the original formatting is usually undesirable. So you can make your work easier by adjusting the default.
- Open the "Further commands" options menu by clicking the black arrow pointing down in Word (see image).
- Select the "Advanced" category and locate the "Cut, Copy and Paste" section.
- In the "Insert from other programs" combo box, change the setting to "Copy text only". You can also use other combo boxes to regulate the behavior when inserting within Word documents. Confirm with OK".
