There are many sources for free and license-free music on the Internet: Whether for film, audio projects or your own music collection - on these three recommended sites you will find the right music and are legally on the safe side.
3. opsound.org offers music of different genres
- Rather unknown artists spread their music via opsound. The tracks are categorized by genre, artist or tag.
- The page is a bit confusing at first glance, but it does contain a large amount of music tracks. It is unfortunately not possible to preview the music without playing the entire title in a player.
- The music at opsound is subject to the so-called "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license", which means you can also use and edit the music free of charge for commercial purposes. However, it is desirable to name the author, for example in the film credits.
2. Free Music Archive with (almost) no copyright
- The Free Music Archive is a very clear and appealing collection of over 50, 000 audio tracks.
- You can find the right piece of music via genre and artist search. You can even find poetry and interview content (in English) there.
- Most music tracks are subject to the "Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share-Alike-3.0 License": You can edit and publish the music for your private and public use, but not use it commercially. Here, too, you have to name the musician.
1. Clear and simple to use: CCMixter
- The CCMixter offers you thousands of songs that you can download directly with one click.
- You can already listen to each piece of music in the list view, call up information about the artist and find other songs by the artist or similar pieces of music.
- The exact license type is given behind each title. Most are under a Creative Commons license, which means that you can usually use the music for commercial and non-commercial purposes and edit it as you wish. It is desirable to name the artists, for example in the film credits.
