Remove scratches from the smartphone display - the best tips
Over time, annoying scratches accumulate on the smartphone display when used frequently. This practical tip shows you how to remove them.
Remove scratches from the smartphone display itself: caution is advised
- If you polish too intensely or use aggressive agents, you will do more damage to the display than to remove scratches.
- Most smartphones have a grease-repellent layer that is supposed to avoid fingerprints. This can be attacked during polishing. You should therefore test all methods on a small corner of the display before you start removing the scratches.
Smartphone: Remove scratches with baking soda
A paste made from water and baking soda helps with light scratches:
- Mix two teaspoons of baking soda with one teaspoon of water to make a mushy paste.
- Apply some paste to your smartphone screen. Then polish it in a circular motion with a clean cloth.
- Then clean the display with a second clean cloth, which you can dampen slightly. Glasses cleaning cloths or a microfiber cloth finally bring the screen to a high gloss.
Remove scratches from the smartphone display: alternatives to baking soda
You can remove slight scratches yourself with household remedies or a special polish. For deep scratches, however, you should contact a specialist.
- As a home remedy, you can try toothpaste. This contains small abrasive particles that grind off barely visible display layers during polishing.
- However, since if the particles in the toothpaste are too coarse, more scratches could easily be "polished in", you should use a special display polish.
- Display polish is available from Amazon for less than ten euros. There is often a microfiber cloth for polishing.
Remove scratches from the smartphone display - how it works
We advise you to use special display polish. However, the process is basically the same as toothpaste.
- First, tape sensitive areas such as the microphone, speakers and buttons with adhesive tape. Make sure that you use adhesive tape that leaves no residue.
- Now apply a small amount of the agent to the affected areas and polish it in a circular motion. It is best to use a microfiber cloth for this. A cotton towel, a piece of cotton wool or, if necessary, a piece of household paper is also possible.
- Polish the product in for about three minutes and then wipe the display slightly damp.
- If you are not satisfied with the result, repeat the process.
To prevent scratches, you can use a screen protector. In the next practical tip, we will show you how to apply the protective film without bubbles.
