Change clutch - symptoms, costs and information
If you want to change the clutch of your car, there are a few things to consider. Here we explain what costs you can expect and what you need to watch out for.
When is it necessary to change the clutch?
The clutch is one of the important components of the car. It is used to separate the transmission from the engine during gear changes or when stopping. The proper functioning of the coupling is therefore very important.
- If the clutch slips, a change must always be made. Therefore, make sure that there is no noise when accelerating strongly. You should also use the tachometer to check whether the increase in speed also matches the acceleration of the car.
- You can test the clutch by engaging second gear and stopping on the brake. Let the clutch come carefully and stay on the brake until the engine stalls.
- If the engine remains on during this test, a clutch change is urgently required. So it's best to go to a specialist workshop. However, if the engine has stopped, there is usually no need to change the clutch.
- Tip: If you are unsure, you can have the coupling tested by a specialist in a workshop.
That costs a clutch change
The cost of changing a clutch depends heavily on your vehicle model. It is therefore difficult to make a blanket statement. For better orientation, we have summarized some average costs for you:
- For a BMW 1 Series, the cost is around 690 euros.
- For a VW Golf VI, the clutch change costs at least 1, 800 euros.
- With an Opel Zafira B, on the other hand, you pay around 900 euros.
- Tip: It is best to get several estimates for the change. In independent workshops, changing the clutch is often cheaper.
