Change fan speed - so it'll work
There can be many reasons to change your computer's fan speed. Regardless of whether you want your computer to have the last bit of performance or if you prefer not to hear it at all: In this practical tip we will show you how you can change the fan speed.
Change the fan speed with the freeware SpeedFan
With the free program SpeedFan, which you can download here, it is possible to regulate the fan speed with just a few clicks.
- Open SpeedFan.
- By default you will now see the "Readings" tab. In the lower section there is a list of all fans that are installed in your PC. Behind each fan you will see a display where you can see what percentage the respective fan is running at.
- You can change the speed by clicking on the up or down arrow. You can also enter a number in the field.
- Attention: Inform yourself exactly about your installed components. If you slow down the speed too much, individual components can overheat and possibly damage your computer.
Change the fan speed with a fan controller
As an alternative to the software solution, you can also control your fans with hardware. There are numerous fan controls for this, but they only work for floor-standing PCs.
- You can buy a fan controller from around € 15 and install it in your computer.
- The device is pushed into a free drive bay and connected to the mainboard. You can then regulate your fans on the front of the fan control.
- The Scythe KM05-BK Kaze Master is popular with Amazon, for example. The 4-channel fan control has a digital display and a freely adjustable alarm signal.
