Longer battery life under Android 5 - how it works
After installing Android 5, many settings for a long battery life have been reset. We show you how you can quickly adapt the new operating system to your everyday life.
Extend Android battery life: Limit traffic
Unfortunately, Android 5 resets all restrictions for apps during installation that limit the data traffic in the background.
- Open the settings of your Android smartphone and select the "Data usage" overview.
- Here is a list of the apps that use the most mobile data. This also consumes a lot of power from your battery.
- Click on apps that you don't want to update in the background. Now scroll all the way down and activate the "Limit app background data" option.
- The app can no longer access data in the background. This is useful for all the apps whose content you only need when they are open, for example your browser. Android apps like "WhatsApp" should not be restricted - otherwise you will only receive new messages later or the next time you open the app.
Battery apps specially tailored for Android smartphones
For some Android smartphones and processors, apps are offered that offer additional functions for a longer battery life under Android 5.
- These apps allow even more options than the built-in battery settings in Android 5.
- With the "BatteryGuru" app for the Nexus 4 you can, for example, record your own user behavior. Apps will then only update at times when you otherwise regularly check your smartphone.
