Laptop in hand luggage - is that allowed?
Can the laptop be carried on the plane with hand luggage? We will tell you and tell you what else you should consider.
You need to know this about the laptop in your hand luggage
- First of all, the good news: you can take your laptop with you in your hand luggage. Many airlines even point out that they definitely have to take it into the cabin, since normal items of luggage are often thrown and valuable items in the suitcase can break.
- Some airlines have the rule that a laptop bag counts as an additional personal item. That means you can take your normal hand luggage and a laptop bag with you.
- You should always follow airline regulations. For many, certain hand baggage weight limits must not be exceeded. Finnair, for example, requires that hand luggage and a personal bag together not weigh more than 8kg. Depending on how heavy your laptop is, you have to pay attention to the total weight.
- In general, you shouldn't carelessly throw your laptop in your pocket in the cabin. Just get a cheap laptop sleeve or a laptop bag directly.
- Also make sure that your bag does not exceed the specified dimensions. You can usually read this from any airline.
- When entering the duty-free zone in every airport, you have to take the laptop out of your hand luggage and place it in a separate tray for screening. So stow it away at hand or directly in your own pocket.
