Charging a laptop with a solar charger - how does it work?
With a solar charger you can even charge your laptop when there is no socket far and wide. So you can take full advantage of the mobility of your notebook on the beach and in the garden.
Full laptop battery thanks to solar charger
The procedure is relatively simple: As with conventional solar chargers, the battery can be charged by the sun or in bad weather at the socket. You will later connect your laptop to the charger to transfer the stored energy to your laptop. You have to pay attention to the following aspects:
- The size of the solar panel
- The battery capacity
- The performance of the battery
- The connection options
Use large solar panel for laptop
- In order to absorb as much energy as possible, you should definitely use a large solar panel on a laptop.
- Smaller panels take significantly longer and if a cloud is in the sky, the charging process can take a long time.
- The Titan AM 600 solar charger comes with a large panel and connections for numerous laptops.
The right battery capacity and performance of the solar chargers
- As a rule of thumb, the capacity of the solar charger should be at least twice the size of your laptop battery. Most solar chargers for smartphones are therefore falling out.
- For example, Lenovo's G-series notebooks have 2, 200 mAh batteries as standard. In order to also charge iPad, smartphone etc., you should not be stingy here. The Xtorm solar charger is often sufficient for netbooks.
Select the solar charger with the correct voltage
- There are 5 volt, 7 volt and 12 volt chargers. Smartphones and tablets usually get by with 5 volts. As a rule, this also applies to normal batteries and camera batteries. Laptops and car batteries also tolerate a voltage of 12 volts.
- The top product is therefore the Powergorilla. You can also use the foldable Poweradd.
Connection options for the solar panel
- Since every laptop manufacturer uses different plugs for the power supply, you should take a close look at the scope of delivery.
- Depending on the solar panel, you should also use a universal adapter if necessary.
