Find your laptop - how it works on Windows 10
A laptop with Windows 10 can be located on a Microsoft website. To do this, the location function must be activated and the laptop switched on. You also need to use Windows 10 on the laptop with a Microsoft account. We will show you how to activate and use the location function.
Enable laptop location in Windows 10
To be able to locate your laptop in the event of loss, you must activate the function in the Windows settings. You also need to be signed in with a Microsoft account. This is the account you usually use to log in to Windows 10.
- Click on "Settings" in the start menu and select "Update and security".
- Select the "Find my device" option on the left.
- In the right half of the window you can see whether the option is activated. The location is switched off by default. Activate the option.
- Note: The location is only available from the "Threshold 2" update. If you do not see the function, first install the latest updates.
Find Windows 10 laptop
If you lose your laptop, you can now locate it on a Microsoft website.
- Go to account.microsoft.com/devices and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- You will now see an overview of your devices, including your laptop.
- Click the device, and then click Find My Device. Microsoft now shows the current or the last known location of the device.
