Tax free laptop and PC - is that possible?
In this article, we explain how you can deduct your PC and laptop from your tax and what you need to consider.
How to deduct PC and laptop from tax
- You can deduct an item from tax if you can show that you need it for work.
- For example, if you work in the home office, you can deduct new purchases from the tax. In general, we recommend that you always deduct everything from business tax. For example, teachers can justify an armchair in the study by thinking about new teaching topics or reading and preparing reading for class.
- As with all tax matters, you must of course make sure that everything is sufficiently documented. This includes not only the receipt, but also an explanation of why this purchase was necessary for your practiced profession.
- For example, you can deduct your laptop from the tax as a necessary work tool if you always have to take it with you to work or use it to evaluate data at home.
- As a rule, everyone benefits from deducting the study and the equipment from the tax. This includes books, tables, lamps and everything you need to work.
- Especially when you do business on your PC, it can already be deducted from tax. This is also possible if you use it to answer business emails.
- Keep in mind, however, that you won't get the full amount paid back or deducted from tax. You can fully deduct everything that cost a maximum of € 952 including VAT. This means that the amount is fully deducted. Anything above that must be written off over the useful life. So if your laptop or PC cost over € 952, you have to prove its use for over 3 years.
- A kind of logbook for everyday use is usually sufficient as proof of a laptop and PC. In this you note all professional activities with date and time.
