Laser printer: overview of power consumption and costs
If you want to buy a new laser printer, you should above all inform yourself about the power consumption of the devices. We'll show you what you need to know before buying.
Laser printer: cost of purchase and toner
- Compared to inkjet printers, the acquisition costs for laser printers are usually somewhat higher. The most popular devices for home and office cost between 60 and 150 euros.
- The cost of the toner and the number of pages that can be printed depend on the manufacturer and model. Compared to an inkjet printer, the prices are usually the same or slightly higher.
Power consumption by laser printers
- The power consumption of laser printers is much more important. With an average output of 300 to 550 watts, the power consumption is comparatively high. Business devices deliver up to 1000 watts. Inkjet printers are a lot more economical with around 25 watts.
- If you switch on a laser printer, the device must first heat up. Temperatures of up to 200 degrees are necessary for this. If you print little, you often have to heat up and therefore have higher electricity costs.
- You should also note the power consumption in standby mode and in sleep mode. These vary greatly depending on the device. Sometimes the power is less than 10 watts, sometimes even wasteful 80 watts.
