LaTeX: Activate and deactivate hyphenation - how it works
With the word processor LaTeX you can activate and deactivate the hyphenation separately. In this practical tip, we will show you how it works.
Hyphenation in LaTeX - all information
- To use hyphenation in LaTeX, put "\ usepackage [ngerman] {babel}" in the preamble.
- The automatic hyphenation is activated in the program and you do not need to do anything else.
- With the command "\ -" you set a manual hyphenation. Use the command as follows.
- If you want to separate the word "practice tips" into "practice tips", the sentence in LaTeX is "practice \ tips".
- If you want to disable hyphenation for individual lines or words, put "\ mbox" at the end.
- Example: This sentence is ignored by hyphenation \ mbox
- Note that all other words and sentences are still handled by hyphenation unless you use the \ mbox command.
If you would like to force an empty line in LaTeX, we will show you in the next practical tip how this works.
