LaTeX: Write tilde in the text - how it works
You can also introduce a tilde with continuous text in LaTeX. In this practical tip, we show you which commands you have to use.
LaTeX: Write tilde in the text - how it works
- For a tilde you have to switch briefly to math mode in the body text. You can do this by embedding the $ \ tilde {} $ command between two dollar signs.
- You get the letter "n" with a tilde with the command: $ \ tilde {n} $ (see screenshot).
- If you want to place a tilde over several letters, you can also use the command \ widetilde {}.
- You can get a tilde that is not above a letter, but separately with the command: "\ ~ {}" (without quotation marks).
- Tip: With the command "\ raisebox {-0.9ex} {\ ~ {}}" a free standing tilde is also at a medium height relative to the text.
In the next practical tip you will read how to write in italics and underlined in LaTeX.
