LaTeX: Increase and decrease numbers - how it works
If you want to raise or lower numbers in LaTeX, only a few steps are necessary. We'll show you how to do it.
Superscript or subscript numbers in LaTeX
You can raise or lower numbers in LaTeX either via the math mode or with special commands. In the screenshot you can see the two options, both of which lead to an identical result:
- Write the word you want to place a number behind and open the math mode with the dollar sign.
- You can add a number or any character with "^ {number}". Subscript works with "_ {number}". Then you have to exit math mode with another dollar sign.
- The alternative method works with special commands that you have to append directly to the relevant word (see screenshot).
- The commands are "\ textsubscript {number}" for subscript and "\ textsuperscript {number}" if you want to superscript the number.
- This method is particularly useful because you can type commands very quickly with the auto-completion of most editors.
You have already set up LaTeX and written texts, but your lines are too narrow? We show you how you can adjust the line spacing in LaTeX.
