Loud fan on Ubuntu - what to do?
If the fan of your PC under Ubuntu appears to be getting louder and is also constantly in operation, this is mostly due to incompatible graphics card drivers. We show you here how to install the right graphics card driver.
Loud fan under Ubuntu - change graphics card driver!
- Click the gear icon on the left side of your Ubuntu toolbar. Alternatively, you can search for "System Settings" in the dash.
- In the opened "System Settings", select "Software & Update" in the "System" area.
- Click on the "Additional drivers" tab.
- At this point, select a proprietary video driver for AMD graphics cards (or Nvidia).
- Then click "Apply Changes" and "Close" the window.
- After restarting Ubuntu, the fan of your computer or laptop should run quietly again.
