Noisy speakers can spoil the enjoyment of music or film. But most of the time, the problem is easy to fix. In our practical tip, we show you what you can do about loudspeaker noise.
Noise in the loudspeaker: Check the volume control
With external speakers, noise in the speaker is often caused by incorrect volume settings.
- Turn the volume control on the speaker all the way down.
- Turn the volume on the playback device - on a PC, laptop, cell phone or MP3 player - to around 75 percent.
- If not already started, start playback and slowly turn up the volume on the speakers.
Noisy speakers: Remove sources of interference
Electronic devices near the speakers may be causing noise.
- Remove all potential sources of interference such as cell phones and other electronics from the area of the speakers.
- Cables - especially power supplies, telephone or computer cables - can also cause noise.
Does a cable or the device cause the noise?
If the speakers are external, a broken cable or a defect in the playback device may be causing the noise.
- Check whether all cables are connected correctly.
- Try a different cable if possible, or test the cable on other speakers.
- Also check the playback device: Connect the device to other boxes or use another device for playback.
Loudspeaker noise: Check the recording for noise
- The speakers may not be hissing, you may have played an inferior recording.
- Play music you are sure the recording quality is high.
