Loudspeaker: repair the bead - how it works
A broken bead immediately reduces the sound of a loudspeaker. You can easily repair the surround yourself and get the full audio enjoyment of your HIFI device again.
Broken bead at the loudspeaker - get a replacement
As a rule, you should replace a defective bead. You will find numerous suppliers of loudspeaker spare parts on the Internet. In order for the bead to fit, you have to pay attention to a few things.
- The size is not the only decisive factor. The surround must also match your speaker model.
- There are foam and rubber beads. The latter have a slightly longer lifespan. As a rule, however, you should choose the material that was previously installed in your loudspeaker.
Repair speaker surround - so it'll work
Once you have found the right bead, you can start.
- First loosen the screws on the speaker to be able to take it out of the housing.
- Next, remove the trim ring.
- Now you can remove the bead. Carefully scrape off the beads from the speaker chassis. A sharp carpet knife is best for this.
- Even after careful scraping, there is still adhesive residue. Remove them with gasoline and a brush.
- You also have to scrape off the beads from the membrane.
- If everything is clean, coat the edge of the membrane with adhesive. Let the glue dry a bit before continuing.
- Now place the bead on the edge of the membrane and center the bead. Then fix them with clips.
- Finally, bend the bead between the brackets and coat the chassis with glue.
- The glue takes about an hour to dry out.
