Measuring volume should not be underestimated in modern everyday life. Noise levels can be quite high, especially in cities. This is also the case at events such as parties or concerts. We present 3 apps for measuring the volume.
Measure volume with Android: Sound measurement app
It is easy to measure the volume with the sound measurement app for Android. It enables the decibel number to be measured quickly and effectively in the environment, during conversations or other activities. All you have to do is open the app.
- The average, highest and lowest decibels are displayed. These change depending on the location and are measured in real time.
- A highlight of the app is the comparison of certain decibel numbers with real-time situations. In this way you can check whether the displayed decibels exceed the pain limit of 120 or are still in the range of a conversation (approx. 40 dB).
Measure volume via iOS with decibels X
For iOS users, the Decibel X app is recommended. This is also a decibel meter that is available for iPhone, iPad and the Apple Watch. Even a version for Android is available. The highlight of the app is the already calibrated decibel meter, which can measure a frequency range from 30 to 130 dB. The measured decibels are presented in clear graphics.
- The app can be used together with the device's camera. The individual images are then displayed with the current decibel number and can be sent or shared.
- Decibel X can also be synchronized with the devices mentioned above via iCloud. The data can be recorded on them over a longer period of time and even exported to different data types (PNG, CSV).
Sound Analyzer: measure volume with many functions
The last app is the Sound Analyzer for Android. This application not only offers a sensitive decibel meter with live statistics, but also numerous other functions.
- The sound level (LAeq), the sound pressure, frequencies from 25 Hz to 16 kHz and in two modes and the equivalent continuous sound level (Leq) can be measured. The measurement results are shown in clear graphics and tables.
- In addition to a decibel meter, a dosimeter for sound measurement is also available.
In addition to using an app, you can calculate decibels yourself. In the next practical tip, we will show you how this works.
