League of Legends: black screen - what to do?
If League of Legends shows a black screen at startup, this is due to incorrect resolution settings. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
League of Legends: Fix black screen issue
- Press the [Windows] and [E] keys simultaneously so that the Explorer opens.
- Navigate to the path "C: \ Program Files \ Riot Games \ League of Legends \ RADS \ solutions \ lol_game_client_sln \ releases \ DATA \ CFG" or copy the file path to the Explorer bar.
- You should now find the "game.cfg" file. Here you can adjust the settings. More on this in the next paragraph.
- If you do not find the path, you can right-click on the League of Legends desktop shortcut to select the "Open file path" option. You can now search for "game.cfg" using the search at the top right of the window.
League of Legends: Adjust display settings
- Right-click on the "game.cfg" file and select the "Editor" under "Open with".
- Now look for the lines "Width = xxx" and "Height = xxxx". An incompatible resolution is specified here. Enter a different resolution here.
- Tip: Right-click on the desktop and select the "Screen Resolution" option. Here is the current resolution compatible with LoL.
- Look for the line "UserSetResolution = x" in the file "game.cfg". You must use a 1 for the "x". If the line does not exist, insert it yourself at the end of the file.
- Save the changes using "File" and "Save" or the key combination [Ctrl] + [S] and start League of Legends again.
