- The data carriers are all similarly fragile when they come into contact with sunlight. The UV radiation can cause the protective layer to decompose, rendering the pane unusable. Therefore, store the discs in the dark.
- Scratches and contamination are the main reason for defective media. If the CD, DVD or Blu-ray is not recognized or you want to remove fingerprints, you should only use a minimally damp cloth. Glasses cleaning cloths are best suited.
- If the air humidity is too high, the protective layer can also be affected. The plate can sometimes bend or become cloudy, which complicates the reading process.
- Due to their more stable protective layer, Blu-rays are less susceptible to most damage and are more suitable for archiving, also because of their higher storage capacity.
- Commercial plastic sleeves are also recommended for storage. You should store the data carriers horizontally in a light-protected place at room temperature.
