Curriculum vitae: Specify special knowledge and skills
On the resume, you should provide different knowledge and skills to qualify for a job. However, it is better not to write down some knowledge. Find out more about the dos and don'ts in your resume here.
Knowledge and skills in the curriculum vitae: what should not be included
A CV only includes the skills and knowledge that are really useful or meaningful for the position advertised. When applying for a job in administration, applying for a job, you should mention writing, language or IT skills. Everything else, such as lifeguard badges, would go beyond the scope.
Things that are not relevant for the profession would only unnecessarily overload the résumé and the clarity and structure would be lost. So you should always check whether the reader can use the abilities mentioned to assess whether you are suitable for the job.
Include knowledge and skills in your CV
Your knowledge and skills should be given a separate section on your resume in order to appear clear and well structured. You should then give the section a heading. For example: "Special Skills"; "Knowledge and skills" or "qualifications and skills".
Next, we'll show you how to represent and formulate individual skills:
- Language skills: It is necessary to clearly state on your CV how well you speak this language. The highest level is mother tongue, the lowest basic knowledge. In between you can differentiate between good and very good knowledge.
- IT and EDP knowledge: In order to correctly list this knowledge in your CV, you should also evaluate it according to school grades. For example, "very good knowledge of word processing" or "good knowledge of Excel". Basic knowledge is again the lowest level.
- Job-specific skills: You should definitely provide knowledge that is a prerequisite for your job. For example, the driver's license as a courier driver. How well you can drive a car is not part of your CV.
- Further training: If the further training you have completed is important for your job, you should write it in a separate section. It is important that the period of further training is specified.
