Freezing food even without useless disposable plastic is actually very easy and requires no special aids. In this practical tip, we will show you how you can save plastic when freezing.
How to freeze food without plastic
If you want to do without plastic not only for packaging new food, but also for food that has already been cooked, you will quickly notice that there are no plastic-free products on the market so far. But there are a few tools that you are sure to have at home:
- Glasses of different sizes are perfect for freezing all kinds of dishes. Be sure to let your food cool completely before placing it in the freezer. Only fill the glass until it is about three quarters full. It cannot burst like this.
- Jute or cotton bags are suitable for bread, cakes and other pastries . You can reuse them an infinite number of times and simply wash them in between.
- You can freeze fresh garden herbs or sauces in steel ice cube molds. Again, be sure to let hot dishes cool down first. You can of course also use the plastic mold, which is usually already supplied with new refrigerators, but it should be BPA-free if possible.
- Beeswax towels are easy to deform and are therefore suitable for all types of food - from pieces of fruit to cheese and rolls. They can be easily washed off with soap and water and can therefore be used again and again.
- Paper bags, for example from bakers, can also be easily frozen. So keep this and use it if there are a few Sunday rolls left.
- Stainless steel storage jars are not only suitable for the snack. But be careful: these should not be put in the microwave if you want to defrost your dish later.
- You can of course freeze bananas, pears, apples and other fruits with a natural skin completely without packaging .
