Vacuuming food saves you from unnecessarily throwing away bad food. This practical tip will tell you which tips and tricks are available to make this kind of preservation easier for you.
Vacuuming food - you should note that
When vacuuming your food, different precautions have to be taken depending on the product. So that everything works smoothly, we explain what you should pay attention to.
- Before you start welding with your vacuum sealer, you should remove all damaged areas from fruits, vegetables and other foods. By doing this, you ensure that they do not spread any further and that the products do not lose their durability.
- You should always weld in fruit such as bananas or apples together with the skin. The same applies to vegetables such as potatoes.
- Vacuumed food should always be stored as you would otherwise store it. This means that products that need to be cooled also come back in the refrigerator after being sealed.
- Freeze liquid foods beforehand. They are much easier to handle when frozen. This process is also worthwhile for berries or particularly small fruit. When frozen, they are much more robust and easier to handle.
Vacuuming food - the process has these advantages and disadvantages
The vacuuming process can have various advantages but also disadvantages.
- The most obvious advantage is of course the preservation of the food. In some cases, the lifespan of some foods can be extended from a few days to several weeks and even months. Cheese, for example, can be preserved for twice as long.
- Vacuumed foods are used in the sous vide cooking process. The products are prepared gently and can be used directly in the bag. However, be sure to cut the bag open in one place.
- The vacuuming process means that the food does not lose its taste and aroma as quickly as if it were stored in the traditional sense. Spices and fruit and vegetables rich in vitamins in particular benefit from this.
- This also reduces the risk of freezer burn if you plan to freeze the products afterwards.
- An obvious disadvantage is the use of plastic to seal the food. This not only creates a lot of garbage, the films also have to be bought regularly.
- The sometimes complex preparation of the products before vacuuming can also quickly become annoying.
