LED lamps: lifespan of expensive lights
LED lamps are very popular due to their long lifespan. LED light bulbs replace the typical light bulb in the home with their energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. However, they are often of different quality and lifespan.
The lifespan of an LED lamp
The expensive LED lamps are becoming more and more common in shops and households. With the promised long service life, burnt-out light bulbs no longer have to be replaced several times a year.
- The lifespan of LED lamps is specified by manufacturers in hours or years. Hours are often between 15, 000 and 20, 000. For annual data, a daily usage of three hours is assumed. Thus, some manufacturers advertise a lifespan of 10, 15 and 25 years.
- Since LED lamps actually do not break due to their technical structure, the lifespan refers to the radiance that gradually diminishes.
- There are actually differences in quality. Cheap LED lamps tend not to have the long lifespan as stated on the packaging, these often only just meet the statutory warranty obligation of two years.
- Osram, Ledon and Toshiba, on the other hand, offer a three to four year guarantee. Some manufacturers also offer a five-year guarantee.
- This is particularly important for lamps in which the LED bulb is permanently installed. If this diminishes in radiance or if the bulb breaks, the bulb can only be replaced costly by a specialist. However, some high-quality manufacturers also offer a free exchange.
- If you have to dispose of the LED light or lamp, please note that it must be returned to special collection points. They contain electrical components and are therefore electrical waste and not household waste. In retail stores such as drugstores and hardware stores, collection boxes are available for this.
