Connect LED strips - how it works
In this guide, we show you how to connect several LED strips. LED strips can be easily connected to one another with click connectors without having to make complicated solder connections. We will explain the best procedure step by step.
Connect LED strips - length adjustment
At the beginning you have to cut your LED strip to the right length. Most LED strips have marked areas on the top between the individual LEDs where the strips can be cut. It is important that you only use these places for the separation. Otherwise the subsequent LEDs are not supplied with power and remain dark. Most tapes have marks after three or five LEDs.
- At the beginning, measure the length of your LED strip. You should do this before you buy, because it allows you to choose a tape that will have very little waste. Pay attention to possible edges or curves when determining the length.
- Once you have determined the length, measure your LED tape. You can cut it off at the marked point that comes closest to your measurement. This works without any problems with ordinary scissors.
Connect LED strips - insert click connector
When you buy your LED strip, three to four click connectors are included in the package. However, if your project requires multiple connections, you can also use click connectors that have been purchased. Follow the steps below to quickly connect the LED strips together:
- On your LED strip you can see four copper conductors or optionally four letters that identify the conductors. There are four small contact pins on the click connectors. Now place the four conductors over the four pins so that the contact points touch. For tapes covered with silicone, you have to push the pins through the silicone. If it is too heavy, remove the casing.
- As soon as you have the conductors and the pins of the click connector on top of each other, press the plastic tab of the click connector onto the underside of the connector. At this point you should feel a slight click, this is the sign of the correct attachment.
- Continue as described in points 1 and 2 and connect the individual LED strips to each other until the end. You can then attach your LED strip to the planned location and establish the connection to the socket.
