Legacy - what is it?
Legacy and UEFI - the terms are closely related. You can find out exactly what legacy is below.
Legacy - the rescue for older hardware
For some time now there has been a BIOS successor for the operating systems Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. This successor is called UEFI and is responsible for the management between the software and the hardware during the boot process.
- Since UEFI - the abbreviation for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface - was designed for newer hardware, there can of course be problems with the recognition of older hardware during the boot process.
- In such a case, legacy takes over.
- In Windows 8, for example, go to the boot menu with the [F2] key and then replace the UEFI mode with the legacy BIOS.
- After the legacy BIOS is activated, restart and all hardware should be recognized during the subsequent boot process.
- In short: Legacy is a kind of "replacement BIOS" for computers on which the new UEFI does not work properly.
