Reading on tablet or eBook reader: the differences
You can read an eBook on both the tablet and the eBook reader. You can read what makes the difference in this practical tip.
Read eBooks on the tablet
- Possible application: With the multimedia all-rounder, you can surf the Internet, check e-mails, use a wide variety of apps, read eBooks and much more. In short: tablets are mobile all-rounders.
- Performance: Due to their diverse application options, tablets have a constantly evolving CPU performance, a quad core is now almost standard. In addition, tablets also offer greater storage performance than eBooks and a significantly better graphics resolution.
- Display: LCDs with active backlighting are used on tablets. You can use it to read well in the dark, but it can be much more difficult outdoors depending on the sunlight. In addition, the eyes tire very quickly when reading on the tablet for a long time.
- Battery: Due to the high energy requirements such as for the display, the battery in tablets is empty relatively quickly. This is of course a problem if you need the eBooks for your work or if you want to pass the time with an eBook during a flight of several hours.
- Color: In contrast to most eBook readers, a color display is the norm for tablets.
- Price: The higher functionality comes at a price, so tablets are usually significantly more expensive than eBooks readers.
Read eBooks on the eBook reader
- Possible application: The eBook reader was specially designed for reading books. You can also go online and check an email occasionally, but it is not really suitable for hours of surfing or gaming.
- Performance: The processor performance and the storage capacity are significantly lower for eBook readers than for tablets. However, since they were designed specifically for reading and not for complex apps, this is not noticeable when used.
- Display: Most eBook readers have an eInk display and are therefore particularly eye-friendly. They are perfect for long reading without straining your eyes unnecessarily. Since e-readers with an eInk display do not use backlighting and are usually equipped with a matte display, the e-reader can also be used to read outdoors.
- Battery: In addition to the very eye-friendly display, the significantly longer battery life is another plus for the eBook reader.
- Color: Apart from eBook readers with LCD, most eBook readers are black and white.
- Price: As a rule, eBook readers are significantly cheaper than tablets.
Conclusion: tablet or e-book reader for reading?
- If you are primarily concerned with reading books, you should do your eyes a favor and opt for an eBook reader. Especially since the eBooks are usually lighter and therefore easier to hold. In addition, eBook readers have a significantly longer battery life.
- On the other hand, if you only read a book occasionally, you will certainly be better served with a tablet, since the possible uses are many times greater.
