LG G5: The 5 best modules at a glance
With the G5, LG has released the first modular smartphone for the mass market. We show you the best modules.
1. For music enthusiasts: The Bang & Olufsen sound module
In cooperation with the popular manufacturer of sound systems from Denmark, LG has developed a module for its smartphone.
- The module contains a 32-bit DA converter (digital-analog converter), in addition an AMP amplifier.
- It enables problem-free "upsampling" of audio files of lower quality to higher quality levels.
2. For photo fans: the LG "Cam Plus" module
As our test shows, the photos of the LG G5 are definitely in need of improvement. Criticism of a picture noise already starting in daylight and the imprecise soft focus are criticized. Although the LG "Cam Plus module" does not remedy these weaknesses, it does provide functionality similar to a camera.
- Quick start button for the camera, aperture, record button, zoom wheel - ordinary smartphone cameras do not have all of this.
- LG also advertises with a haptic that comes astonishingly close to the feel of a real digital camera.
- The module also increases the smartphone's battery capacity - from 2800 mAh to 4000 mAh.
3. For people with cable allergies: "LG Tone Platinum" Bluetooth headphones
In principle, LG is launching a standard Bluetooth headset with the "Tone Platinum" headset.
- However, due to its metal design and particularly high wearing comfort, it should stand out from other headphones of this type. Otherwise, typical features such as a microphone, a battery status LED or music control are installed at the push of a button.
- According to LG, the full sound experience is only possible with the top smartphone G5, which means that aptX coding achieves a bit rate of 24 bits. However, it can be assumed that every other smartphone that supports this coding delivers comparable sound.
- According to the manufacturer, the headphones should be able to listen to music for up to 10 hours thanks to the 2x110 mAh battery. The standby time is 415 hours.
4. For dreamers and divers: The "LG 360 VR glasses"
VR glasses are hard to come by. The increasingly high-resolution smartphone displays in particular make it easier to use them. It is clear that LG is also on the market with such glasses, which have been adapted to its flagship G5.
- In principle, the LG 360 VR glasses also offer no significant added value compared to other virtual reality glasses. Only the exclusive compatibility with the LG G5, also via app connection, allows smartphone owners to use these glasses.
- However, the reviews for the LG glasses were rather sobering.
5. For video fans: The "LG 360 Cam"
Action cameras are becoming increasingly popular, especially in summer and on vacation. LG is involved in this segment with its LG 360 Cam, a, as the name suggests, a 360 ° camera.
- The camera records 360 ° videos with a maximum of 2k resolution (2560x1280 pixels). It has a double wide angle, which should make the pictures look even more vivid and authentic.
- The video files can be published directly on YouTube or Google Street View.
- According to the manufacturer, the 1200 mAh battery enables a recording time of 70 minutes.
- So far, the "LG 360 Cam" only works with the LG G5. The camera can be controlled from a smartphone using a Bluetooth connection.
