Use LG Time Machine with USB stick - how it works
Since the LG Time Machine only records on hard disks by default, problems can arise if you want to use a USB stick. That is why we will explain what you have to do to make it work.
Use LG Time Machine with USB stick - does not work with every USB stick
- The USB stick used may only have a maximum capacity of 32 GB.
- In addition, the USB recording function on the TV may be blocked.
USB stick: magic word “Removable Media Bit”
Actually, LG TVs can only use TimeShift recordings on hard drives. Models from 2014 onwards should also be able to use USB sticks without any problems. If you want to record from an older LG device to a USB stick, you first have to convert the stick's firmware so that it is recognized as a hard disk.
- The "Removable Media Bit" (RMB) implements the bit in the stick firmware that identifies the stick as "removable". This pretends to the TV that the stick is a normal hard drive.
