LibreOffice Calc: The main formulas
In this practical tip, we will show you the most important formulas for LibreOffice Calc. So you don't have to do a lot of searching for the most common calculations, but can fall back on our basics.
The main formulas for LibreOffice Calc
Cells A1, B1 and C1 are used as example cells in this manual. Of course, the formulas can also be used with all other cells. The quotation marks should be omitted when entering the formulas in LibreOffice Calc.
- Add: To add two or more cells together, such as cells A1 and B1, enter the formula "= A1 + B1" in the corresponding cell.
- Multiply: Use the formula "= A1 * B1" for multiplication.
- Rounding: With the command "= ROUND (A1; 1)" you display the content of a cell rounded to one decimal place. You can also replace the number "1" with another to output further decimal places.
- Sum of several cells: To display the sum of cells A1 to C1, use the formula "= SUM (A1; C1)".
- Average: To calculate the average value of cells A1 to C1, select the formula "= AVERAGE VALUE (A1; C1)".
- Condition: For a condition use the command "= IF (A1> 10;" Large ";" Small ")". In this example, the corresponding cell displays "Large" if the value is greater than 10. Otherwise the word "small" is output.
- Random range: With the command "= RANDOM AREA (number1, number2)" LibreOffice Calc creates a random number between "number1" and "number".
In the next practical tip we will show you how you can use the conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc.
