You took a picture that is out of focus. In this practical tip, we explain how you can sharpen your photo with Lightroom.
Sharpen images in Lightroom in just a few steps
Lightroom offers you a practical tool for resharpening. To do this, first switch to the "Develop" module
- Select your image for editing from the filmstrip below.
- Open the "Details" item in the right window area by clicking on the arrow.
- Right below the preview image you will see the "Sharpening" section.
- Use the "Amount" slider to set the level of sharpness. You can use this to bring your image into sharp focus. For a perfect result, experiment with different levels of sharpness until you are satisfied.
- Incidentally, you can either move the slider with the mouse or enter the value manually by double-clicking on the number.
- The "Radius" slider helps you sharpen the details. A small radius is well suited for photos with many small subtleties such as landscape shots. Select a larger radius for pictures of objects or people. You should also try out the various setting options here.
- The emphasis on edges in an image is set with the "Details" slider. With a small value you remove blurs. A higher value works out textures well. Again, it is important to find the perfect setting for your picture by testing.
- The mask slider determines which areas are sharpened at all. If the controller is set to 0, this means that all values are sharpened. If you move the slider to the right, more and more black parts are excluded from the sharpening process. This is particularly suitable for portraits, since you can sharpen the contours of the eyes without involving the skin, for example.
- To view the result in the before and after view, click on the “Before and After” view option directly below the image.
- Press the [D] button to return to the normal view of the picture.
