Lightworks: create a picture-in-picture effect
With the freeware Lightworks you have one of the best free video editing programs. Tricks like picture-in-picture effects are unfortunately somewhat hidden here. We will show you how to do this.
Insert picture-in-picture effect in Lightworks
A picture-in-picture effect is added in Lightworks via a second video track. So you first have to add a second video track and arrange it appropriately on the screen.
- Start Lightworks and create a new project.
- First import all the clips you need into your project. Lightworks displays a dialog for this at the beginning.
- With the icon "Create a new edit" you have to add a new editing sequence.
- Drag your "background clip" into the video track of this cut.
- You now have to create the second video track for the picture-in-picture clip. To do this, go to the gearwheel in the upper right corner of the "Edit" window and select "add Track".
- Now drag your second clip into the top video track.
- Right-click on the second clip and select the "Add" button under "Effects" and then "DVEs" and then "DVE".
- Now a window opens in which you can adjust the effect. To create a picture-in-picture effect, you first have to move the main slider from "Scale" to the left. So you need to scale your clip down.
- With the two sliders of "Position" you can now move the clip to the right or left. You can even animate the picture-in-picture effect with keyframes.
