The origin of the word "Lindner" is related to the politician Christian Lindner, the federal chairman of the FDP.

"Lindnern" was also one of the top 10 candidates for the youth word of the year 2018, but was unable to win the title.
- Langenscheidt-Verlag has been awarding the title "Youth Word of the Year" since 2018 in a multi-stage selection process. At the end, a jury chooses a term that has particularly shaped the youth language in the respective year.
- In addition to "Lindner", terms such as "leek" or "I kiss your eye!" Were also used in 2018. in the final selection.
