Linear regression in Excel - how it works
First you have to enter data pairs. In our example it is body size and shoe size.
- Select the data area for which you want to display a linear regression.
- Select "Insert"> "Diagram" in the menu to start the diagram wizard.
- The type of diagram is queried in the first dialog window. Select "Point (XY)" here and click "Next".
- The data area that you have already selected is now queried. Therefore, just click on "Next".
- In the next step you can enter a title for the diagram and label the axes. You can also simply skip this step by clicking on "Next" and then selecting "Finish".
- The Chart Wizard should now have created a chart from points. Select the diagram. Now you can see the menu item "Diagram" in the top bar. Select "Add trend line" here.
- In the dialog window, select the "Linear" type. For options, choose "Show formula on the chart" and "Show coefficient of determination." Then the linear regression is shown.
