Remove Linkey - Here's how
If you have Linkey on your PC, you should remove it immediately. While this is not a virus, it is annoying adware that infects and slows down your browser. In this practical tip, we will show you how to remove the malware.
Step 1: Uninstall Linkey
- The adware is usually installed subconsciously when you install other freeware.
- First switch to "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel to uninstall "Linkey" from your PC.
- Remove entries here that are unknown to you and that are not used by the system. If in doubt, you should briefly research what the respective programs are for.
Step 2: Clean up the Linkey browser
Linkey may have changed your browser so that search queries are redirected or the standard search engine is changed. Therefore, you should reset it. We have the right instructions:
- Reset Google Chrome
- Reset Mozilla Firefox
- Reset Internet Explorer
Step 3: remove the remains
After you have cleaned your browser again, you should now remove any remains of Linkey. To do this, scan your PC with the tools listed below and remove all finds.
- With the help of AdwCleaner you can check whether there is any other adware on your PC.
- For security reasons, you should carry out a final scan with the Malwarebytes Anti Malware tool so that the last remains are also removed.
Step 4: Check browser links
In many cases, Linkey changes the links in the browser so that another page is opened or something similar:
- Right click on all shortcuts in your browser and select "Properties".
- Make sure that only the ".exe" file of your browser is specified under "Links" in the "Target" field. There must be nothing behind it.
- If there is something behind ".exe", delete it and save it with a click on "OK".
