How to find all 50 shells in Link's Awakening
You can only find many magic shells in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening when you are digging. Therefore you need a shovel. You can either steal them or buy them in the shop for 200 rubies.
- Ancient ruins: You will find a magic shell in the rock at the top right in the rock labyrinth, which is located near the ruins. You can find another one by touching the left group of statues.
- Cocolint Steppe: If you complete the four challenges in Boris' hut, you will receive a magic shell. You can also dig for another one - under the bush next to the lonely grave.
- Dungeons: In Dungeon 1's Worm Palace, you can use bombs to blow up a wall to get to the shell. In the Djung Grotto of Dungeon 2 you will find one under a rock. In the Devil's Villa at Dungeon 3 you will find a buried shell, another is hidden in the bush on the island. In the mask temple of Dungeon 6 the room with the chess pieces leads you to an island and in the eagle fortress of Dungeon 7 you get the shell by jumping through a hole on the left.
- Thirsty desert: Here you can find three magic shells . One is hiding near the owl statue between the cacti in the sand, another under a stone at the end of the path in the east of the thirsty desert. You get the third if you play the "Ballad of the Windfish" for the walrus on your Ocarina. To do this, you must be in the same place as Marin.
- Fratzenwald: The only shell in this area is located in the far east of the forest. Here you have to dig again.
- Mövendorf: Here you will find some magic shells . You get the first one when you use your sword to work on the grass field in Mövendorf. After the second you can dig in the shed next to Madame MiouMious's house. You can get the next two shells from the gripping hook game in the crane kemenate. You only get one of them after dungeon number 3. You get two more magic shells while fishing. One if you've caught a Cheep-Cheep and one if you catch the lord of the pond. Both are only possible after the 4th dungeon.
- Doomsack: You don't have to dig for this shell. You can collect them from a box in the cave under Richard's house.
- Slime bog: There is only one magic shell to be found here. To do this, you have to dig at the phone booth. This is near Dr. Wright's house.
- Kanalet Castle: In the north of the castle there is a small waterfall where you can find a shell while diving. You can get another one by walking along the moat, pulling grapples over the holes and going down the stairs.
- Rapids: You will find a shell on the island, which lies east of the island with the owl statue. To do this, you must use the grappling hook on the descent. You will get another if you manage to go down the rapids particularly quickly.
- Taltal Mountains: If you dive at the waterfalls, you can find a shell. However, you need the fins that you get at Dungeon 4. There is a cave nearby where you can blow open a wall. There you will find a box after some rooms. You also need a bomb for the next shell: you have to throw it into the hole next to the chicken coop. Another can be found near the suspension bridge under a rock. For the next, go through the cave and then up. There you will find the shell under a stone. A shell is also buried near the warp point.
- Taltal Heights: To get this magic shell, you have to drop a bomb in the hole next to the warp point.
- Torongastrand: In this region you will find three shells. For the first, bump into the tree next to the palace. For the second you have to bump into one of the palm trees. You get the third one when you dig where you spoke to Marin.
- Urunga steppe: You will find a shell if you dig under the stone skull. Another is hiding to the right of the mussel bazaar in the bushes. For the next one you first have to blow up a wall in the cave and then you can dig next to the owl statue. Another magic shell is hidden under a rock on the path to Zoodorf. You can also use the Pegasus boots to bump into one of the trees near the phone booth.
- Magic forest: Behind one of the rocks there is a box with a shell in it. Another is buried at the northern end of the forest. You can dig a third in front of the cave.
- Zoodorf: To find the first shell in the Zoodorf, you need the magic magnifying glass. Then talk to the Zora in the pond. The second shell you get when you speak to the goat named Christine again after you have given her the letter to Dr. Deliver Wright.
- Dwarven Bay: There are four shells waiting for you in this area. One is on the small island with the bush, another is on the island with the owl pond. You will find the next one under a jug in the abandoned house. There is a shell in the bushes near the mermaid statue.
