A simple Linux system is particularly suitable for netbooks. We show you how to install Linux on your netbook.
Install Linux on netbook - choose the right Linux
- The Ubuntu derivative Lubuntu is ideal for installing Linux on netbooks. Other Linux versions have too high hardware requirements.
- In addition to Lubuntu, you also need the free tool UNetbootin and a USB stick.
- You should format the USB stick beforehand.
Step 1: Install Linux on USB stick
- Start UNetbootin and activate the "Image" option below. With the button with the three dots you can open the ISO file of the Lubuntu you just downloaded.
- Select the "USB drive" and the correct USB stick as "Type" below. Click the "OK" button to start the process.
- Lubuntu is now transferred to the USB stick so that you can then install the operating system from the USB stick on your netbook.
- When the process is complete, you can remove the USB stick and close the program.
Step 2: Start Linux installation on the netbook
- Insert the USB stick into the netbook and start it. If the installation of Ubuntu does not start immediately, you have to change the boot order.
- If the netbook starts from the USB stick, a small Lubuntu menu appears. Select the "Install Lubuntu" option with the arrow and enter keys.
Step 3: Install and set up Lubuntu on the netbook
If you see the Lubuntu loading screen, you have arrived at the installation.
- Select "German" as the language and click the "Next" button.
- In the next step you can decide whether you want to download and install existing updates directly. That is highly recommended. However, you can deactivate the "Install third-party software" option if necessary.
- Now you can decide whether Lubuntu is installed as the sole operating system. In this case, the entire hard disk is formatted. If Windows is still installed on the netbook, you can keep both systems.
- You can then choose your location, time zone and keyboard layout.
- If you create your users for Lubuntu in the last step, the system is set up.
- After a few moments, Lubuntu is ready for use on your netbook.
