Failed to connect: org.bluez.error.failed when connecting Bluetooth devices under Linux
When connecting Bluetooth devices, such as wireless speakers, the error "Failed to connect: org.bluez.error.failed" can occur. A common reason for this is that the "pulseaudio-module-bluetooth" package is not installed. On Ubuntu and Debian, do the following to install Pulseaudio:
- Open your terminal and enter this command: sudo apt install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth.
- This will install the missing package.
- During installation, you may have to agree that the package will actually be installed.
- It is then necessary to restart Pulseaudio. To do this, enter the following commands one after the other into your terminal: pulseaudio -k pulseaudio --start
- Now your Bluetooth device should connect easily. If this is not the case, you will find an alternative solution in the next section.
Failed to connect: org.bluez.error.failed when connecting Bluetooth devices - alternative solution
For this solution you have to activate the module "module-bluetooth-discover".
- Enter the following command into your terminal: sudo pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover.
- If this still does not help, it is also worth loading the following modules with the same command: module-bluetooth-policy, module-bluez5-device and module-bluez5-discover.
- If loading the modules has resolved your problem, you can configure Pluseaudio to load the modules automatically. To do this, edit the "/etc/pulse/default.pa" file. Use the examples in the file as a guide.
