Linux: create hard disk partition
Under Linux, partitions can be created very well with the partitioning program. This program is already included in some Linux distributions - for example with Kubuntu.
Linux: install partition manager
If you do not have the partition manager installed yet, follow these steps. If it already exists on your system, you can go directly to the next section.
- Open the terminal and type "sudo apt-get install partitionmanager" (without quotes). Execute the command.
- You may also need other packages. So also type "sudo apt-get install jfsutils reiser4progs reiserfsprogs xfsprogs hfsprogs" and press Enter.
- Alternatively, you can go to the Software Center under Ubuntu and install the "KDE partitioning program" there.
Linux: Create a new hard disk partition
Open the partition manager from your terminal with "sudo partitonmanager".
- In the partitioning program, click on your hard disk under "Devices" and select the unused hard disk area in the right display with the right mouse button.
- Select "New" in the opened menu and define the size of the new partition in the "Create new partition" window.
- Confirm with "OK". The operation is only carried out after a final confirmation via "Apply" in the top left of the partition manager menu. Be patient - the process can take a while.
