Linux Mint: Create backup - how it works
Thanks to the integrated backup tool, you can easily back up your files under Linux Mint. In this practical tip, we explain how you should proceed.
Create backup under Linux Mint
- Open the application overview and search for "Backup". Click on the "Backup Tool" entry. Then enter your password to start the program with root privileges.
- In the newly opened window, select "Backup files" or "Backup files".
- In the next step you configure the backup (see picture): Under "Source" you select the folder to be backed up and with "Target" you determine the storage location of the backup - ideally an external medium. If you open the advanced settings, you can also define a description for the backup and other options. If you are unsure, you should leave the standard configuration in the settings below. Then click Next".
- If you do not want to enter certain subfolders or files, you can select them here by clicking on "Exclude files" or "Exclude folders". Confirm with "Next".
- An overview of the backup job is now displayed. If everything is correct, click "Apply" to start the process.
- Tip: It is also useful to back up a list of installed programs. To do this, simply open the Linux Mint backup tool again and select "Save software selection" this time. After that, you determine the storage location and optionally cannot capture individual applications.
