Activate Linux subsystem under Windows - how it works
The Linux subsystem gives you the option of using Linux commands and programs under Windows.
- To activate the subsystem, enter "PowerShell" in the Cortana search field, right-click on Windows PowerShell and select "Run as administrator".
- Then enter the command »Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux« and confirm with [Enter].
- If you are asked to restart your PC, confirm the operation.
- Then install the "Ubuntu" app and then start it. In the next step you will be asked to enter a new Unix user name and a new Unix password.
- To access the hard disks of your PC, execute the command »cd / mnt«. With »ls« you can display all drives. For example, switch to your C partition with »cd c«.
