Livedrive vs. SafeSync: cloud storage in comparison
Livedrive vs. SafeSynch? We compare two strong cloud storages and tell you where to store your data.
Livedrive: The affordable cloud storage
Livedrive gives you a gigabyte for just 0.3 cents - in the overall picture, the cloud storage also scores with its wide range of functions:
- Supported platforms: In addition to Windows and Mac, you can also access your data via your smartphone (iOS / Android). Linux is not supported.
- Security: The transmission path to the servers is secured with Livedrive with SSL encryption. Your data is saved here with AES-256 encryption. The servers are based in England.
- Tariffs: Although the cloud storage does not offer a free account, you have the option to try Livedrive for 14 days. The "Backup" tariff has unlimited backup storage (limited to one PC), but does not have its own "cloud storage". "Briefcase" can then be synchronized with all devices and offers a storage space of 2000GB.
- Special features of cloud storage: Thanks to the server's own software, you can make any changes to your files anywhere online. For example, you can edit a Word document in a browser on a friend's laptop without having to download it.
SafeSync: The NSA storage
At SafeSync, the name says it all. While cloud storage isn't exactly the cheapest, it's one of the safest. The following functions are also worth mentioning:
- Supported platforms: Whether Windows, Linux or Mac - SafeSync supports all known platforms. Of course, you can also access your data via Apple and Android devices.
- Security: SafeSync works with 256-bit AES encryption, which is also used by the NSA and many banks, for example, to ensure that data is well protected against attackers.
- Tariffs: SafeSync does not bill monthly, as is often the case, but annually. The range of data to be stored ranges from 20GB (30 euros) to 500GB (275 euros). Only 2GB are available here free of charge.
- Special features of cloud storage: As already mentioned, great importance is attached to security at SafeSync. In addition to NSA encryption, all data is checked for viruses when uploaded and automatic backups reliably replace your data if it should be deleted by mistake.
Conclusion: cheap & good!
Livedrive shines with a wide range of functions and affordable tariffs. SafeSync seems to be the ideal place if you want to save your data securely and work across platforms. The question is whether you want to pay more for more security. In the overall picture it can be said: In contrast to SafeSync, Livedrive scores with numerous functions and relatively cheap tariffs. Even though SafeSync offers a more secure method of data storage, Livedrive is also at a high level in terms of security standards.
