Lufthansa FlyNet - what is it? Easily explained
Lufthansa is offering the so-called FlyNet on more and more flights. In this practical tip, we will tell you exactly what it is and what costs you will have to face.
Overview of Lufthansa FlyNet offers
FlyNet is Lufthansa’s website. FlyNet started in 2017 in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom. The FlyNet is available on both short and long-haul flights. However, not all aircraft are currently equipped with FlyNet.
- Once on the plane, you can connect to the FlyNet via WiFi. Some offers are free of charge for all passengers, many functions are subject to a charge.
- Access to a Lufthansa news portal is free of charge. The messages are updated every 15 minutes. Access to TV channels such as Euronews, CNN and sports channels is also free of charge. Information about weather, flight status, connecting flights and options for rebooking are available.
- If you want unlimited access to the Internet and use WhatsApp and Facebook, for example, or check your emails, you need paid access.
- The cost of internet access varies depending on the length of access. Unlike some other airlines, the data volume on FlyNet is not limited. Internet telephony and streaming on YouTube and Netflix is not possible due to the large amount of data. Here you can find all further information about costs and payment on FlyNet.
- In addition to access to the Internet, you can also connect to the GSM network. This enables you to send and receive SMS and MMS. Roaming tariffs apply, which often charge several euros per minute.
