lul.to: Receive a warning - this is how you react correctly
If you used the illegal download portal "lul.to" and received a warning about streaming on the platform, the shock is probably great at first. We show you how to react correctly.
lul.to: the facts
- The download portal, also known as "reading and listening", was recently closed by the police. 11 TB of data and a large amount of cash were confiscated.
- The download of books or other offers was illegal and violated copyright law, which can have criminal as well as civil consequences.
- In contrast to other portals, lul.to was not an exchange. You could "only" download offered content and could not upload your own content.
- The provider may store the user's IP addresses for up to seven days. However, since new IP addresses are not always assigned, users can be traced back over a longer period of time.
- Users can also be found using the payment method: If you have used Amazon vouchers, for example, you can trace them back.
lul.to: This is how you should react to a warning
The closure of other portals such as "Kino.to" triggered a wave of warnings. This can also be expected in this case.
- If you have received a warning for the use of lul.to, you should take it seriously and react promptly.
- The warning is accompanied by an injunction. Under no circumstances should you sign them, but rather use them to contact a lawyer. Otherwise you admit a debt and can be legally prosecuted.
- The lawyer should modify the injunction. He will take the admission of guilt and only promise in the declaration that you will avoid breaking the law in the future.
- It would be wrong if you do not respond to the warning letter at all. Then the warning person can obtain an injunction from the court, which can quickly result in costs of several thousand euros.
